Passion and Talent T-shirt Design (Assigned on August 26, 2013)
We have been discussing the concept of finding and cultivating our talents and passions in life in order to achieve success in our lives, not just in school. It is when we recognize and accept our talents and aren't afraid to pursue to our passions that we can move towards living a truly enriching life. In the RSA Short Animation below, Sir Ken Robinson discusses this notion and how the diversity of human talent and passion, if we all choose to truly embrace them, can truly lead to the creation of a truly sophisticated society. There's a lot of fancy language in there, but I really encourage you to watch this video several times to truly glean from it the profound message he conveys. http://www.thersa.org/events/rsashorts/rsa-shorts-how-to-find-your-element
Assignment Part 1:
You are to design a T-Shirt which can be submitted to the Imaginary Foundation. The design of your shirt should represent any of the ideas presented in Sir Ken Robinson's video on "Finding Your Element" or something that represents finding/cultivating your talent, passion, creativity, open-mindedness, imagination, etc. Your design can be done manually on paper or digitally using an ipad/tablet app, but it MUST BE YOUR OWN! It should fill a whole page (8.5 X 11) and it should be colorful. It should also reflect a mindful effort (no stick figures or scribbles!). And this goes without saying, but make sure it is Catholic school appropriate :).

Assignment Part 2:
You are to write minimum 1/2 page to 1 page explaining/describing:
1) What your image is or what it represents
2) Why you chose to project/convey this image
3) What stylistic methods/strategies you chose to use (color, words, symbols, etc.)
4) What your process was like in coming up with your T-Shirt design (Did you have a hard time first trying to think of a design, or did you know what you wanted to do right away? Were you just scribbling/doodling around for a little while and then you suddenly had an epiphany on what to do? Did you know when to stop or felt like you could always keep improving/going? Did you like having so much freedom with the concept or were you wishing for more and very specific guidelines?) AND WHY?

Passion and Talent T-shirt Design
The image I decided to incorporate on my t-shirt was a boomerang. My t-shirt design has a philosophical meaning to it. When I say philosophical, I mean that life is like a boomerang. Whatever you end up giving out in life or imagination, you will end up receiving back in time just like a boomerang. I chose a boomerang to project the image because I was really trying to come up with something clever. First, I was just doodling words in big letters and that's when I got this idea. The boomerang and the rainbow colors are the stylistic methods I decided to use. The boomerang represents giving and getting back. The rainbow colors in the words "Imagination Creation" and the tie dye shirt represent being imaginative and creative. I honestly had an extremely tough time coming up with a design to put on my t-shirt. There were so many things I could have done, but had no true meaning to them. Eventually, I stopped after writing the quote at the bottom of the page because that's all I felt was needed to understand the design well enough to appreciate it. I am very happy with the freedom. I like to think outside of the box and generally with strict guidelines I don't really get to express myself in the ways I want to.

I felt very free with my opinions and that's why it took me so long to decide what I wanted to do.
